Poppies with Ania Knap

In January 2024, certified McGown teacher, Ania Knap gave a workshop to 20 Guild members on her pattern, "Poppies”, using hand-torn wool strips. The class was at a local

facility near Lambertville, NJ.

The 18” x 22” pattern was hooked with a super-wide cut (3⁄4”?). Ania provided a list of wool amounts needed for the flower and background and offered kits assembled with

backing and all the wool needed to complete the piece.

The 2-day class was amazing. Ania demonstrated more techniques than those which only applied to the Poppies piece. The attendees worked hard and long, and left the

class with all the information needed to finish their piece. Each piece was different as each student chose different colors for different areas.

After two days of fervent hooking, Ania came to our monthly meeting to give a presentation on creating eye-catching color combinations and a unique way of looking at symmetry, contrast and color.

At a recent meeting, class attendees showed their completed and nearly completed creations, exhibiting their individual style and color combinations, all of which looked terrific.

Ania is a McGown-certified rug hooking teacher and a self-described “recovering scientist”. Her PhD in chemistry and artist’s viewpoint combine to offer students a new perspective on design and execution. Her love of color inspires and drives her passion for artistic creativity.
